A proud tradition of community contribution

Strengthening the community since 1979

For more than 40 years, the Tuggeranong Valley has been the heart of Vikings, and we are dedicated to supporting and growing our local community by creating opportunities, connection and belonging.

Our purpose is to provide opportunities for sport, recreation, and hospitality for our members and the wider community, while encouraging social interaction and building a sense of community. Our values have shaped the way we engage with the community, fostering participation, development and inclusion.

How we give back

Have your say on the future of Canberra clubs

Our commitment to community

For more than four decades, Vikings has proudly served as part of the Tuggeranong community, a place where people connect, belong, and feel supported. Since 1979, we have backed over 50 sporting clubs and 8,000 athletes, created jobs for more than 340 people across the ACT and New South Wales, and contributed more than $2 million each year to programs that strengthen our region. Our purpose has always been simple: to help our community thrive. Whether through sport, education, culture, or wellbeing, Vikings invests in what matters most: people.

A defining moment for clubs

The ACT Government has launched an Independent Inquiry into the Future of the Clubs Industry, a process that will determine how clubs remain viable and community-focused in the decades ahead. This Inquiry represents a defining moment for the industry and will influence how the Government partners with clubs like Vikings to ensure we can continue to deliver significant social and community benefits, even as the sector transitions away from its reliance on gaming revenue.

The Community Gaming Model

The Community Gaming Model has long underpinned how clubs support their local communities. It ensures that funds generated through gaming are reinvested directly into local programs, facilities, and initiatives, not distributed to shareholders or external investors. This model has enabled clubs to fund junior sport, scholarships, cultural programs, and wellbeing initiatives at a scale unmatched by any other community-based organisation.

Supporting a sustainable transition

As community expectations and industry realities evolve, a sustainable future will require diversification. The ACT Government has an important role to play in supporting clubs through this transition, ensuring that community support continues while clubs develop alternative, sustainable revenue streams.

For this transition to be successful, it must be guided by strong public policy, collaboration, and investment. The Inquiry presents an opportunity for the ACT Government to work with clubs to create a realistic pathway toward new, sustainable income streams, ensure community funding levels are maintained even as gaming revenues decline, recognise and preserve the social infrastructure that clubs provide, and encourage innovation and diversification that allow clubs to reinvest in hospitality, sport, and recreation ventures that retain value within the local community.

Without this support, there is a real risk that community funding, sporting sponsorships, and local partnerships could decline, not due to lack of will, but due to the absence of a sustainable structure. The Vikings model demonstrates what is possible when responsibility and reinvestment go hand in hand.

The importance of community voices

Community input is vital in helping the Inquiry understand the true social and economic value of clubs. When members and residents share their experiences, policymakers gain insight into the lives, connections, and opportunities that club support makes possible.

Vikings encourages all members and community partners to take part in the ACT Clubs Inquiry survey to help ensure the Government hears directly from those who benefit most from Canberra’s clubs.

The survey closes Sunday, 9 November 2025.

Shaping the future together

Vikings has always believed that clubs are about more than food, beverage, and entertainment. They are about belonging, purpose, and community spirit. With the right support from Government and a shared vision for the future, clubs can continue to deliver the social good they do today while building new, sustainable models that reflect the changing needs of members and the community.
